Six more weeks of winter...boo ya! It's supposed to snow this weekend:) We had a busy day today where the grade 7's were introduced to integers and next week we will begin learning how to add and subtract them using strategies like number lines and counters. Parents, this unit would be a good chance to check in with your child about how they are doing because this can be a difficult concept to understand.
Math 7: Due for Monday, front and back of integer worksheet. Math 6: Scale drawings due Monday Science: Research due tomorrow-your 5 questions should be answered. We will be presenting next Thursday afternoon. Remember to bring your indoor shoes tomorrow for curling, as well as a coat, gloves, and stretchy pants. P.A.R.: No P.A.R. tonight. Hopefully this gives you the chance to finish up any more research you need to do to answer the science questions. Curling Info (as taken from Ms. Hurtubise's website) Curling originated in the 16th century in Scotland, where games were played during winter on frozen ponds and lochs. The earliest-known curling stones came from the Scottish regions of Stirling and Perth and date from 1511. Now, Curling is a favourite sport of Canadians. On Monday, January 23 and 30, we are going curling at the Cloverdale Curling Rink. I think it's going to be fun. The Cloverdale Rink has been having an issue with salt coming into the lobby of their club. If it is not dealt with properly, it can and does find its way to the ice which leads to it some very serious affects on the quality and effectiveness of the curling ice. Here is what we have been asked to do to help alleviate the issue:
It is also recommended that you wear warm loose stretchy clothing (jeans are not suitable, sweat pants are best) and dress in layers (light jacket, sweater etc.). You may also want to bring a pair of gloves. Reminders: Field trips coming up: Friday, February 3rd: Curling at Cloverdale Curling Rink 12:30-2:00 Friday, February 10th: H.R. MacMillan Space Centre all day (Leave Hillcrest by 8:15, return by 2:45) Tuesday, February 14th: Skating at Cloverdale Arena 9:15-10:15 Today the grade 7's finished part 3 of their FSA tests. They demonstrated their reading comprehension skills as they read a variety of passages and then answered multiple choice questions. No post tonight. Ignore questions below and do not write anything at all. During gym we practiced our interception skills in basketball by playing "Piggy in the Middle" and trying to intercept our partner's passes. In the afternoon the band students went off to practice and everyone else stayed and worked on their science. I am really looking forward to seeing their extreme environment presentations!
Homework: Math 7: Retest tomorrow at lunch time. You must come see me at recess for extra help if you want to do the retest. You need to also show me that you have completed the practice questions. pg 156 #1, 3, 7, pg 157 # 13, 14 pg 162 #1,2,4,6,8,10 pg 165 #1,2,5 mid chapter review, all but #7 Science: Research completed by Friday Curling Info (as taken from Ms. Hurtubise's website) Curling originated in the 16th century in Scotland, where games were played during winter on frozen ponds and lochs.
