This morning division 2 worked on making our paragraphs more formal. We then went skating at Surrey Sport and Leisure Centre and had a blast! In the afternoon Mrs. Sekhon taught us about electricity and we thought about how we would be impacted if we had no electricity for an hour, a day, and a week. At the end of the day we had gym and we tried medicine ball wrestling! It was fun to see the students battle it out to try and win for their team.

Our class worked on a brain teaser and persevered our way through any struggles we may have had. Then we moved on to writing our introductory paragraph for our non-fiction picture books and got feedback from our peers. We read chapter 5 of The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas. After recess the pink shirt day committee held an assembly that taught kids of all ages what kindness looks like. During the assembly Sadie and Elliot did a great job as mc's! After lunch we worked on our build a beast projects and many of us started our good copy. Then our band students left to go and work hard and improve on all of their songs. The non-band students used the time to work on their art projects and catch up on any work. REMINDERS: Please bring food for the food drive! All is appreciated! Skating Field trip tomorrow! Then we worked on perfecting our introductory paragraphs for our non-fiction picture books. Before recess we went through our dance routine to ensure that every one has a good understanding of how to do the dance! After recess we watched a short video that taught us how to properly play tetherball, then we started our algebra unit! After lunch Mr. Kurth taught us a few german words. Then we played on the park and came inside and worked on our science!

After recess, we did an activity on introductory paragraphs. Lastly, we started a project in science called building beasts to demonstrate our knowledge of the adaptations that organisms have to survive in their environment.

For example, Cole wanted the mascot changed to a Spirit Bear, but one of the obstacles he faced was the parents who wanted to hold on to the proud Bulldog tradition. He overcame this by speaking from his heart, and asking for the opportunity to create his own future. (please do not use my example). Today, div 2 did research for our non-fiction picture books. Some students did the integers re-test for math, while the rest continued their research. Lastly, we watched a video in science about the origin and evolution of life.
Upcoming Important Dates: February 14th-Valentines Party February 17th-Family Day. NO SCHOOL February 18th-Coffee Morning, 7:50-8:25. Parents are invited to come into the classroom and see what their children have been working on February 21st-PRO-D DAY. No school!!!! P.A.R. What's your favourite movie/T.V. show? Happy Friday Division 2! I must say, I really enjoyed our day today. I felt like we were able to have a relatively honest and open conversation about our song that we will be doing for our contemporary dance. It made me realize too that although I keep trying to get us to be more comfortable with each other, we still have a ways to go before we are willing to be vulnerable and uncomfortable with each other. I think you all showed great insight into what our song is about and I hope that you are able to take some of the feelings and emotions from the song and portray it in the dance.
During buddies, it was great to see how your games have come together! None of the games fell apart, and the were all playable. Not bad for cardboard, tape, and glue! In the afternoon, we finished up our graphs for the Battle of the Beaks. Who knew tweezers could be so handy? Lastly, I'm glad you got to enjoy a Feel Good Friday with Ms. Boss' class, as we have wanted to have a successful one like this for a while. Hopefully we can make it a more common thing. Reminders: If you are rewriting the Math test, it will be on Monday between recess and lunch. Please study over the weekend. P.A.R.: In order to get to know each other and feel more comfortable around each other, you were each given a post it note with a student's name on it. Think carefully, and think of one thing that you like about that person. Write down the person's name, and your positive comment, as your post. For example: Ms. Boss-Always in a good mood and tries to make class fun. Mr. Stewart-Always right, except for that one time....ok that one isn't necessarily true, but you get the idea. What can we do as a class to ensure everyone feels comfortable enough to be vulnerable and do this dance to the best of our ability. Let's be honest, if even 1 or 2 people don't try, it brings the whole dance down. How can we help everyone feel comfortable and confident enough to give it their best, so we can put together something beautiful?
Question 2: Do you feel safe enough in our class to try something like this dance, as a class? Why or why not?
