Well class what did we learn today? Not to sit in an assembly with chocolate in your front pocket! At least, that's what I learned. I really enjoyed our walk out in the field this afternoon. It's so nice to get out and enjoy this snow and sunny weather! To me, it shows that all learning does not have to take place in the classroom.
Reminders: Please remember to bring your Secret Santa gift tomorrow! I can store it in my locked cupboard until we hand them out. Please also remember to bring the items you signed up to bring, whether it is a game, food, drinks, etc. See you tomorrow!

The students had a lot of fun today working on our art projects! We will be able to finish them tomorrow and I think they will turn out great. Tomorrow we will be making Christmas Cards for our buddies as well!
In the afternoon we have our Christmas Assembly at 1:00 and will probably last until about 2:00. Reminders: If you have Sophia K or Paige for Secret Santa, please bring your gifts tomorrow as they will not be here Friday. Everyone else should probably also try and bring their Secret Santa gift tomorrow as well in case we forget on Friday! P.A.R.: Which is your favourite colour of Christmas? (hint, mine is white, because it represents snow!) Today the students worked really hard on learning some space definitions that will help with their understandings about stars. After recess we learned about translations on a Cartesian plane and how to slide shapes up and down, left and right on a grid.

Math: No homework Circle of Courage: Try to have your 3 items for belonging and 3 items for generosity in your Identity box for tomorrow. P.A.R.: No post today. UPDATE:
Well class, as you may have noticed, not everyone posted. I was extremely hopeful that everyone would be able to meet their commitment. I hope this is a learning experience for all. I would like to recognize that the majority of students were able to complete their posts over the last couple of weeks and do so regularly. That is why I am not cancelling the field trip. The majority of us will be going swimming tomorrow. However, those who have missed 2 or more posts in the last 3 weeks will be staying at the school. I believe this is a fair alternative so that the entire class does not miss out because a few people didn't complete their homework. Those students are expected to be at school tomorrow and will spend the afternoon in another class. I will be emailing the parents and students who have missed 2 or more posts. If you don't receive an email, it means that you have kept up to date on your P.A.R. assignments. Don't forget your swim suits and towels. Mr. Stewart Monday, you must bring your swimsuit and towel as we are going to Grandview Pool, leaving here at 11:30 and starting to swim at noon. We will be returning by 215-230. Students who have already posted, do your best to contact the students above and have them complete their posts. May the odds be ever in your favour. P.A.R.: What was your favourite thing that you learned this week? This afternoon the students participated in the Hour of Code. Code.org provides instructional games and videos that teach students the basics of programming and using computer code. We started with working on the game "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Students programmed their droids to move around and catch mouse droids, avoid Storm Troopers, and create Taun Tauns. They were so engrossed that you could hear a pin drop while they were working. After they completed the Star Wars challenges, they were able to experiment with any other game that they chose. Many of them worked on Flappy Bird, allowing themselves to gain points for crashing into things, or giving themselves nearly infinite points.

Return your swimming field trip forms and $2.75 P.A.R.: What did you find the hardest about the art with Mrs. Farrell today? What did you enjoy the most? Snow day! Above are our grade 7's covered in snow! Today it started to snow in the morning and after band the class, Mrs. McPherson and I took full advantage by going outside and playing. We made snowmen and got soaking wet but we had a blast!
In the afternoon we watched a Magic School Bus video about stars and the students came up with a lot of things that they learend after we brainstormed and shared our notes at the end. In Gym, Rohan and Kaiden came up with a new version of the Hunger Games in which students worked as a district and teamed up with other districts. Lastly, report cards went home! While most of the students' work and assessment is on FreshGrade, the report that went home today is just meant to give a basic snapshot for parents and students as to where the child is at according to grade level expectations. All of the personalized assessment and comments are on FreshGrade as an ongoing assessment and reflection on learning. Homework: Identity: Mr. Stewart has given you an extra day to get your paragraph done. We will work on them in the morning. French: Label Dream School and complete 4 sentences, due TOMORROW. Reminders: December 7th is an early dismissal day. Return your swimming field trip forms and $2.75 P.A.R.: WRITE ONE THING THAT YOU LEARNED ABOUT STARS IN THE VIDEO TODAY!!!! I can't believe how fast this day went by. We started our morning off with an amazing presentation by a person who is an honored member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, the BC Hockey Hall of Fame, a former player of the Chicago Blackhawks, Atlanta Flames, and the Vancouver Canucks, my uncle, Darcy Rota! He gave us an inspiring presentation about what it takes to be a leader in all aspects of our lives and it connected really well with our discussions about growth mindset, perseverance, and grit. Afterwards we made Elf Glyphs with our little buddies. The students set a great example for the younger students. Lastly, in the afternoon, we got our Venn Diagrams about the three types of galaxies all finished. Homework: Identity: Complete paragraph of introduction for your rock that you found on Tuesday. If you didn't find one on Tuesday with Mrs. Wood, ensure that you have found one for Tuesday. Hockey Math: Finish your Week 7 worksheet and update your graph.
