Today Division 2 worked amazingly hard on their Halloween stories and Gracefully Grayson projects.
We also practiced our volleyball skills in gym. The serves, volleys, and bumps are coming along! Reminders: Due tomorrow! Halloween stories MUST be typed up in Office 365. Non-band students: Independent art project due tomorrow Thursday: Halloween party between recess and lunch! If you are on the Halloween committee and have signed up to bring something, please ensure you remember it. Also, wear your costumes!! Friday: Pyjama day. Wear something comfy! P.A.R: No PAR tonight. Focus on finishing the typing of your stories.

This morning Division 2 students figured out how to use Office 365. They began typing their Halloween stories which we will edit Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning before submitting our good copies. After recess we practiced multiplying decimals by competing against each other using playing cards.
In the afternoon we had our second lesson about nutrition with Mrs. Walsh. The students should hopefully be gaining insight into the new Canada Food Guide and all the tips that it provides about getting proper nutrition. Reminders: Halloween Stories are due Thursday, October 31st, at recess. They must be typed. You may create a cover if you'd like. Art Passion Projects for students who are not in band are due on Wednesday at the end of the day. Monday, November 4th: Gracefully Grayson Novel Projects are due Tuesday, November 5th: Skating Field Trip with Division 3 P.A.R.: What are three ways you can improve your diet? This morning Division 2 worked extremely hard on their Halloween stories, and most students had their drafts finished as they were due today. If you did not finish your draft (you know who you are) it MUST be done for Monday morning. In the afternoon, students worked on their Gracefully Grayson novel projects, the summative project after we finished our read-aloud. Students chose between completing a character analysis, book review, or writing a sequel.
Leadership: As you know, the Leadership applications were due on Tuesday. I'm happy to announce that everyone who applied from Division 2 has made the leadership team:) Congratulations to Mya, Sequoia, and Sadie! In math, we practiced multiplying decimals. We also started brainstorming ideas for our Gracefully Grayson projects.

Today Div. 2 continued to work on their Halloween stories before recess. After recess we were visited by a few student teachers from SFU who watched what we have been learning in Math. Everyone did a great job demonstrating their understanding. In the afternoon the students worked on French and then received their grade 7 hoodies! Much excitement ensued:)

Today we started our Nutrition Unit with Mrs. Walsh and looked at the Canada Food Guide which has been completely revamped. We also started to learn how to multiply decimals using a variety of strategies such as column multiplication and 10 x 10 grids for decimals that are less than zero. Lastly we had an inside day for recess and lunch so we watched Trolls! It was glitterific:)

This could be anything we have done so far this year, whether it is Divisibility in Math, our Art Collages, the hockey jerseys from Hockey Math, etc. (Remember, "I don't know" is not a valid response) Today, Division 2 worked on their Halloween stories. Mr. Stewart took turns conferencing with students to check in and provide feedback. After recess, we skipped Math and instead we finished our class read-aloud, Gracefully Grayson. While we weren't happy with the lack of information in the ending, it was great to see Grayson get to be who he wanted to be.

If your computer number is ODD, you are arguing perspective number 2. You need to state your argument and support it using examples from the book. You must ALSO respond to at least one other student and respectfully argue against their statement, also using examples and evidence from the book. This means that you will be posting a minimum of TWO times. Feel free to respond to more if you wish. 1. Aunt Sally believes that Mr. Finnegan (Finn) was wrong to give Grayson the part of Persephone. She feels he should not have been allowed to make that decision. Aunt Sally also believes that by casting Grayson as Persephone, he will be bullied. Argue (respectfully) why Aunt Sally is right. Ensure you use examples from the book. 2. Uncle Evan believes that Mr. Finnegan (Finn) did a great thing by casting Grayson as Persephone. Use examples and evidence from the book to explain why Uncle Evan is right. This morning Division 2 worked really hard on their drafts for their spooky Halloween stories! They are utilizing figurative language like similes and metaphors, as well as sensory details (taste, smell, sound, etc.) to draw their audience into their stories.
After recess we learned how to add and subtract decimals, although for many this was review. In the afternoon, we learned about Independence and how we can demonstrate independence to build our understanding of our identity. After that, our band students went off to band and everyone else stayed in class and worked on their Art Passion projects! For example, he wears his new t-shirts underneath his hoodie, as well as his necklace. Answer ONE of the following questions/discussion points. 1. Why do you think Grayson is able to get into character so easily at rehearsal? 2. Why does wearing the t-shirts and necklace help Grayson feel like himself? 3. Make a prediction about what is going to happen next in the story. Think about Ryan and Tyler, Sebastian, Paige, and of course Grayson. Today, Div 2 practiced mindfulness during our walk. We focused on being aware of how our body feels when we are outside, while being mindful of the fact that learning is experiential. Then we each picked a leaf that caught our attention and examined it. We shared what we noticed about our leaf. Lastly, we wrote down how we were feeling before and after our walk.
We also practiced setting goals for our pushups and planks in gym. Many students really pushed themselves! Reminders: Amazing race Friday 5:30-9:00 Story draft due Oct 24 P.A.R.: 1. Which Harry Potter house are you in? If you don't know, go to www.pottermore.com and create an account, then take the test to find out. This morning students did a long write (some for the FSA's, some just to provide me with a writing sample:) and they worked so hard! I was very impressed with a lot of their ideas for an invention that would make life better in some way, whether it is to benefit people, animals, the environment, etc.
After recess we had our Math Celebration of Learning and the students demonstrated their knowledge about divisibility rules, common multiples, and greatest common factors. Because I know this is the first question I will get from students as they hand them in, students, you will get them back marked by Tuesday. In the afternoon, Mr. Stewart took the boys soccer team to Martha Currie to participate in our play day. Best of luck! Everyone else went to a variety of classrooms where they either worked with the students in that class, or they worked on their Halloween stories. Reminders NO SCHOOL MONDAY-Thanksgiving! Our first coffee morning will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd.
