Today we were treated to a play by the Story Company from Victoria. They were pretty funny! Their stories also had some really good messages embedded in them. In your post, write one thing that you learned, or that you think the hidden meanings were, or the theme was of the play.

This morning the pulchritudinous Mrs. Wood returned to speak to us about Belonging, the second direction in our Circle of Courage. We brainstormed the things that belonging means and how it can look like. Mrs. Wood then read "Everybody Needs a Rock" to us which gives us our 10 rules for picking a rock. We then went outside and chose our perfect rocks, based on those rules.
During Math our Grade 6's plowed through their chapter test and they appear to have done very well! I will let you know when I am done marking! In the afternoon, we worked on our triple-circled Venn Diagram about spiral, irregular, and elliptical galaxies. We will be using these Venn diagrams to identify the similarities and compare the differences between these three main types of galaxies. Reminders: We are collecting non-perishable food items and cash donations for a family in our sister school, Lena Shaw Elementary. We are also collecting non-perishable food items for the Cloverdale Christmas Hampers. We will be setting a class goal this week for how much food and money we would like to reasonably raise. P.A.R.: Well we need to restart our 5 days in a row in order to get our swimming field trip on December 12th. So, here we go! 1. Write down one thing you learned about one of the main types of galaxies today. It should be different than something someone else has already said so that we get LOTS of information. Today we got to Deck the Halls during the afternoon! Our class theme was "The Grinch" and the students spent the whole afternoon making a sled, the Grinch, Mount Crumpet, Max, and lots of presents and snowflakes!
Math 6: Test tomorrow. I strongly recommend doing page 298, # 2, 6, 10, pg 302, #4, pg 308, # 5 and 6, pg 312, #1, 4, 6, 7, 8, pg 319, #5, and pg 320, # 11, 13, 14, and 15. Math 7: See your teachers' website. Reminders: Scholastic book orders for November are due November 30th. Magic Show Ticket orders need to be ordered in advance. Return swimming field trip forms by Friday, December 9th P.A.R: Write a riddle and try and solve one other person's. Make up your own or find one on line. Bonus points if you find one to do with space. The picture to the right shows 51 Pegasus, a star that astronomers discovered years ago that has planets in its orbit. This afternoon we watched a very informative video called The Edge of the Universe in which we watched and learned how astronomers, astrobiologists, and other scientists discover planets orbiting around stars in our galaxy. The scientists were also investigating microorganisms that could survive in extreme environments such as extremely hot or cold temperatures. They hypothesized that if we do find life on other planets, it will be found in the form of microorganisms and unlikely to resemble our friend E.T. :) Math 6: Finish your chapter review. I would strongly suggest you also redo the mid-chapter review so that you become reacquainted with multiplying decimals. Test is on Tuesday. Math 7: See your teachers' website. Reminders: Monday will be a pajama day! We will be serving hot chocolate in the afternoon. Please bring your own mug for me to pour your hot chocolate into. Make sure you know which one is yours! Scholastic book orders for November are due November 30th. Magic Show Ticket orders need to be ordered in advance. Return swimming field trip forms by Friday, December 9th P.A.R.: Write, in detail, about one thing you learned about in the movie we watched today. Today the students put together some informative presentations about plagiarism. They gained a good understanding of what plagiarism is and how it can negatively impact their learning. They did very well speaking in front of the class about a topic that they only had a short time to learn about!

Before lunch we had the exciting chance to watch Lillian and Madison dancing in Riesa, Germany via a livestream! We have heard that they made it through to the Semi-Finals...go Team Canada!
