Today Division 5 continued working on their poverty opinions in Writers' Workshop. Their essays are really coming along! In math the grade 6's revisited perimeter. We used some more difficult practice questions that made them think a little bit more about how to find perimeter and what they actually have to take into account. Math 6: No homework Math 7: See your teacher's website. P.A.R.: Tell us a joke!

Today Division 5 kept busy. All morning we worked on completing our Hockey Math before playoffs next week. Students were busy collecting their players' stats and determining ratios, fractions, decimals, and percents. In the afternoon we watched a phenomenal video about Craig Kielburger from Free the Children. He talked about his personal journey and inspiration in reducing child poverty in the world. We then did a journal write to talk about the thoughts, connections, feelings and emotions that the video made us feel. Math 6: If you didn't finish measuring your shapes today, please complete it at home. You need to measure 3 objects in millimetres, 3 objects in centimetres, and 3 objects in metres. Try and pick some fun shapes! Math 7: See your teachers' website. Hockey Math: Week 19 and 20 due Tuesday P.A.R.: What was one thought, feeling, or connection you had from our video about Craig Kielburger? How did it relate to what we've been learning about poverty this week? Can anyone guess what is pictured above? Write your guess in your P.A.R.
Today we worked again on our writing in the morning. The students had another chance to practice their writing on their opinion piece about poverty. They gave each other feedback on how they could improve their writing and then sat down to write! During math our grade 6's had a great time measuring the perimeter of a variety of shapes out in the halls. Lastly, in the afternoon Division 5 sat down with their little buddies and scribed the stories that their little buddies had written. I know the little buddies greatly appreciated the help of their big buddies! Math 6: If you didn't finish measuring your shapes today, please complete it at home. You need to measure 3 objects in millimetres, 3 objects in centimetres, and 3 objects in metres. Try and pick some fun shapes! Math 7: See your teachers' website.
