Well Division 2, we are halfway through the week! So far things seem to be running fairly smoothly. As always, don't forget to ask for help if you need it. On that note, if you do email me and ask for help with math, expect a phone call from me shortly afterwards. It seems quite common that someone asks for help, so I call, and then no one answers!
***If you have not completed assignments from last week, most importantly the video blog, please do so today. Mark on your calendars for Friday's class chat at 10:00 am. I have sent out an invitation to your student emails as to how this will take place and the criteria that you will need to follow to ensure it is a success for all. ********UPDATE****** I have not received very many video consent forms yet. Please let your parents know that they can download the document that I sent them, and fill it out on the computer. Then, just save it and email it back to me. You don't need to print it and sign it if you don't want to. 2) Post a Response - If you could make one rule that everyone in the world had to follow, what rule would you make? Why? Respond in a few sentences. DON'T FORGET TO USE CAPITALS AND PUNCTUATION!!!!!!!!! 3) Math - mark yesterday's math then complete today's work, April 16th 4) Reading: read or listen to a novel for 20+ mins; Videoblog is due on Friday by 3pm 5) Digital Citizenship - "Behaving Ethically" - was due yesterday. Please ensure you have uploaded it as an assignment in our class Team. Finding Credible News will be due Friday. I have changed it into a word document instead of a PDF. DOWNLOAD the word document, open it on your desktop, click "Save As" and call it "YOURNAME Credible News." Then upload it to FreshGrade. It is essential that you do not click "Edit" in the word document that is in the Week 2 Digital Citizenship file as then you will alter my document. 6) Spreading Positivity - weekly project, due Friday, upload to FreshGrade and email me a photo please! 7) Band Students - Band: answer the three questions on the home (general page) of Mr. Melnyk's Hillcrest Band Class in Teams 8) Physical Activity - Get outside and play, ride a bike, skateboard, shoot some hoops, etc or watch a Joe's PE on Youtube for a 25 minute workout Remember that there are a variety of other learning opportunities for you to do as today is a lighter weight day if you worked through things yesterday. See below for options:

PE: Go outside and play for at least 30 minutes (if you have a safe place to do so)
Math: April 15th document in Files, Week 2, Math Digital Citizenship: Behaving Ethically online (this is for Tuesday AND Wednesday) and is found in Week 2, Digital Citizenship folder Art: Please see the "Spreading Positivity" document in the Week 2 Fine Arts folder. This is your week-long challenge for this week. Reminder! On Friday at 10:00 am, I would like to try out a class call on Teams. Please log in to our Division 2 Team and I will create a call at 10:00am. I understand not everyone may be able to make it as they may be babysitting, not have access to a device, etc. but I'd love to get as many people on as we can! Please see below information from Mr. Melnyk Tuesday, April 14th
Good morning Division 2! I hope you all had a restful Easter weekend! I know it probably looked different for you this year, as it did for me as well. At least the sun was out and it was beautiful outside! Hopefully you got to enjoy some of it. This week, we will be doing some more algebra practice with solving one and two step equations. We will also be completing blog posts on Tuesday and Thursday, as well as doing a couple of digital citizenship lessons (since we are doing so much online!). There is also a fun little art project for you to complete to spread some positivity. As usual, your video blog will be due on Freshgrade on Friday. Many of you did not complete yours last week, so please keep on top of your reading and remember to submit the video on Friday. Thank you to those who did submit theirs. As usual, your work will be posted in the weekly folder in our Division 2 Team. Click on Files, then Week 2. All the documents you need will be found there. Pace yourself and complete the assignments as you’d like. You may choose to do all the math on one day, and the digital citizenship items another day. That is totally fine! Work in a way that works for you. Although I post daily work on the class website, and some parts like the blog need to be done on certain days, you can create a schedule that is more convenient to your home learning environment. For example, I will post 3-4 math assignments in the week, and you can do a little each day or do them all on one day if you like. And, as always please communicate with me if you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or need help with anything. Assignments: PE: Go outside and play for at least 30 minutes (if you have a safe place to do so) Math: April 14th document in Files, Week 2, Math Digital Citizenship: Behaving Ethically online (this is for Tuesday AND Wednesday) and is found in Week 2, Digital Citizenship folder Art: Please see the "Spreading Positivity" document in the Week 2 Fine Arts folder. P.A.R.: Answer the following questions in the comments below (like we always do). 1. How was your Easter? What was the highlight? 2. We have now been doing our online learning for a week. How are you feeling about it so far? 3. How would you prefer to receive your assignments? All the assignments for the week given to you on Monday morning, so you know the expectations for the whole week? OR assignments given daily on the class website? Good morning Division 2! Firstly, I wanted to thank you. You have done such a wonderful job this week transitioning into learning online. Your posts have been insightful, you've (mostly) been submitting your assignments, and many of you are asking questions when you have them! Keep it up! You should be very proud of what you've accomplished so far.
Just a reminder that tomorrow is Good Friday, and Monday is Easter Monday, so our next work day will be Tuesday, April 14th. Make sure you check the class website, your email, and our Team in the morning! Have a great Easter weekend! I hope you all get spoiled with chocolate (if you want it:)! UPDATE****** On the math quiz you might be told that you got number 5 or 6 wrong. Don't worry! I am going through and checking each one to see if it is correct, so don't stress about the percentage it is showing you. I will put your proper mark in the feedback box on the quiz.
Remember to start your morning by reading and replying to emails that I have sent you. 1. Writing: Complete the blog post below under “P.A.R.” Here are your instructions: SGN (Some Good News) video - https://youtu.be/F5pgG1M_h_U Watch the video above - it is about 15 minutes long. Do a bit of research or share from personal knowledge a "good news" story. In the P.A.R., tell us about the good news story and how they think it impacted others and how it impacted them. THEN, respond to ONE other student's post and provide feedback (a nice comment and perhaps a suggestion will do). Ensure you respond to someone who does not already have a response. 2. Reading: Read or listen to a novel for 20+ mins; Videoblog is due on Friday by 3pm Further instructions for the Videoblog. You only need to take a video for 30-60 seconds and summarize what you read in your novel this week. You can talk about the main characters, what happened, setting, etc. Then, upload it to Freshgrade to the “Book Video Blog” assignment using your device. Let me know if you have any questions! 3. Math: Mark your Wednesday math, then do your math quiz. Email me with questions BEFORE you do the quiz, if you have them! The quiz can be found under the “Assignments” tab labeled “Week 1 Math Quiz.” 4. P.E.: Go for a walk or a jog outside in the sunshine (if you have a safe place to do so). 5. Band: please make sure you are in Mr. Melnyk's Hillcrest Band Class in Teams. If you are, review his page. If you are not, then email me so I can make sure you are invited to it. 6. Art - Spreading Positivity - Next week you will be doing this assignment but as it will require some supplies, I thought I would upload it into the Files, Week 2, Fine Arts folder for you to read through. You might want to think about what supplies you will need so a parent can help you gather them over the long weekend. No need to work on it until next week. P.A.R.: Respond using the instructions from the "Writing" information above. Good morning Division 2. Gradually we are getting used to using Teams I see! Several of you still have not properly submitted Monday's assignment though, so tomorrow I have added another assignment to get you used to it.
Alright, here is what you will be doing today: 1. Writing: Complete the assignment in the Division 2 Team under “Assignments.” 2. Reading: Read or listen to a novel for 20+ mins; Videoblog is due on Friday by 3pm 3. Math: Mark your Tuesday math, then do the questions for Wednesday in the Math April 8th document. Email me with questions if you have them! 4. P.E.: Follow PE with Joe at https://youtu.be/o-ZCP91mjeE Good morning Division 2! I was so happy to speak with most of you yesterday on the phone and hear how you are doing. It was great to hear your voices! If you have still been unable to log in to Teams for some reason, please make sure you email me. I will call you and walk you through it.
Remember, you should be logging in to your email and checking this website every morning! Lastly, I noticed several emails or comments about the math being difficult. Please DO NOT STRESS. I am here to help, like always. Send me an email and I will get a hold of you and go through the math step by step. In regards to the math, I know some students have been talking about our quiz that will take place at the end of each week. Do not panic! The quiz will be a few questions, perhaps 5 at the most, and will be exactly like the work we have been doing. It is more of a check-in than a quiz. It is just to give me an idea of who needs a bit more help, and what I should teach next. Alright, here is what you will be doing today: 1. Writing: Complete your P.A.R. in the comments section below (like we always do). Put some thought into your response. "No change" or "IDK" are not valid responses. Your response should be a minimum of 3 sentences and include proper punctuation, capitals, grammar, etc. Writing continued: Go to the assignment from yesterday. Answer it again, but this time do it through "Assignments" as a word document. "Word" document will come up when you try to do the work. It should be not be submitted as a post because then it does not show me that you have turned it in. 2. Reading: read or listen to a novel for 20+ mins; Videoblog is due on Friday by 3pm 3. Math: Mark your Monday math, then do the questions for Solving Two Step Equations 4. P.E.: dance up a storm on Just Dance on YouTube like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TBmPNYjMsU P.A.R.: How has Covid-19 changed your definition of “normal”? Good morning Division 2! Welcome to our first official day of learning online! Remember, take it slow, take lots of breaks, and let me know if you are feeling overwhelmed, confused, ______(insert other emotions here). Ongoing communication will be extremely important. A couple of things:
1. In the morning I will send an email out to all students and parents with some more information about the week ahead. 2. You will all notice that I shared a document with you titled NAME's Student Learning Document. We were trying these documents out as a possible way to share information but realized that they will not work, so I have since deleted them. If you still have access to yours in your Office 365, please delete it as you will not need it. 3. Many of your assignments will be posted in our Division 2 Team under the "Assignments" tab. You can click on the assignment and it will show you the instructions. 4. You will notice under the "Files" tab that there is a folder titled "Week 1." Inside that folder will be another titled "Math." Your math assignment can be found in there. 5. Lastly, I will be making phone calls today. Expect to see a caller ID that says "Unknown Number" or something along those lines. Alright, here is what you will be doing today: 1. Writing: Complete your first assignment, "Family Meeting," in Teams before 3pm. You will find it in the assignment tab in Teams or by pressing "assignments" on the left icon box. 2. Reading: Read the Videoblog instructions in "Files" in the Team page. You are expected to read or listen to a novel for a minimum of 20 minutes per day. 3. Math: Read and do the questions for Solving Equations Using Mental Math which can be found in the "Week 1" folder in the "Files" tab on the Division 2 Team page or here https://bit.ly/3aMgLYU 4. P.E.: Zumba https://thinkyourself.com/zumbaforkids/ Click on the video. You will need to enter your name and email (does not have to be full name). Refresh the screen and play the video. Click ahead and start the Zumba at 4:42 Good morning everyone! I hope you enjoy the picture above that the staff at Hillcrest created or you! We just wanted you to know that we miss you and are thinking of you!
I wanted to let you know that although I had mentioned I would be phoning you today, I will actually be calling you on Monday to check in. So please don't think I've forgotten you! I will be emailing out a letter to all students and parents this afternoon that will outline what the next week or two will look like. Please ensure you are checking your student email addresses (your surrey school one) regularly! In the meantime, remember to take time for yourself, and remember that we are not trying to overwhelm you. We will work through all of this together. Please enjoy this terrible teacher joke to add some eye rolls to your day:) Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was outstanding in his field! P.A.R.: Feel free to share your fun and appropriate jokes here! |
