This morning we did a lot of work on Mastery, the fourth direction in our Circle of Courage. Students engaged in self-reflection which led into some excellent group conversations. The discussions were both deep and thoughtful, requiring critical thinking skills.
Between recess and lunch our grade 6's worked hard on their Math test and they did very well! In the afternoon Amanda continued with our Healthy Living commercial project and the students each received their rubrics so they know what is required in their assignments. Many of the groups were very productive...I am very excited to see their commercials! Reminders: We have our first afternoon of Explorations tomorrow! Please remember to bring anything you think you might need for yourself. PHOTOGRAPHY: Please remember to bring a FULLY CHARGED camera if you have one (if you don't have one you will be able to share one of the school cameras) and the USB cord so that you can connect the digital camera to the laptop. P.A.R.: What is the purpose of learning about the Circle of Courage? Why is it important to understand your own identity?

Today Div 5 had a great day! In the morning we started with our Brain Teaser which almost everyone was able to figure out.
In the afternoon we had gym which was led by Lillian, Madison, Jacqueline and Izzy, and assisted by Mack and Charlotte as well. The girls did an amazing job of teaching the students some new skills in beginner, moderate, and advanced groups. Even Mr. Stewart learned how to (attempt) a front fall to bridge (Mack, did I say it right?) After gym class, Amanda introduced the new unit she has design about healthy living. Students will be designing a healthy living commercial and shooting it with 3 others. The students seem very excited to get started! Math 6: Test tomorrow. You should be able to find perimeter, area of a rectangle, parallelogram, and triangle, and volume of a rectangular prism. Math 7: See your teachers' website. P.A.R.: Today we did our Kiva vote. When you voted today, what were your criteria for who you voted for? How did you decide who to choose? Hi class! Just a reminder that it is Sophie's birthday today so there will be no post:) Enjoy the night off!
Hi all,
My apologies for the late post. My internet was down for the last few days. UPDATE: Our Kiva presentations need to be pushed to Tuesday because we just found out that the Gauss Math Contest will be on Monday afternoon. Those not participating in the Gauss will have the afternoon to practice their presentations. P.A.R.: Take the weekend off because the update is so late. If you'd like to post, name your favourite thing about summer. Today was a busy day with students working on their Kiva projects for much of it. Each group has conducted research on the various borrowers on the Kiva website and decided on a person or group that they would like to lend money to. On Monday they will be presenting to the class to try and convince us to support their individual or group.
Math 6: any three questions from page 111, #7-18 PLUS any three questions from page 120, #9-15 (6 questions in total). Due Thursday Math 7: You lucky kids have a test tomorrow! Once again, thank you to the PAC for giving our students the opportunity to make kites! P.A.R.: When you started to look at individuals to lend money to on Kiva, what was some of your criteria? For example, if I was to choose, I would be looking for someone who was most likely in poverty and trying to improve their health and lifestyle, as opposed to starting a business. I'd also be looking for someone in a country that has a really low GDP and that suffers from many negative effects of poverty such as starvation and dehydration, etc. Math 6: Pg. 04-206 # 1, 2, 4-9 (10, 11, 12 if you want extra practice)
Math 7: See your teachers' website. Reminders: Friday, May 5 is a Pro-D day Monday, May 29th is also a Pro-D day Thank you to the PAC for purchasing all of the materials so that we can make our kites on Thursday. https://www.kiva.org/lend/choose-a-borrower?utm_source=google-cpc&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=2017-03-27_v2_match&gclid=CjwKEAjw3KDIBRCz0KvZlJ7k4TgSJABDqOK7CyGGK8IVOdJlYESlnS5DsrfoMq1m0scpMyTmZkHU_xoC-Z_w_wcB Visit the above website and think about who you would like to donate money to and why. P.A.R.: Write one thing you learned from at least TWO of the presentations we saw today. Try to make them different than other students who post before you. Hi kidlets! I hope you had a great day with Mrs. Pauga. She assures me that you were awesome and that you warmly greeted Lina and Lisa, our new exchange students from China. I also heard that my grade 6's had an excellent understanding of how to find the area of triangles right away! Nice work:) Math 6: Pg. 04-206 # 1, 2, 4-9 (10, 11, 12 if you want extra practice) Math 7: See your teachers' website. Reminders: Friday, May 5 is a Pro-D day Monday, May 29th is also a Pro-D day P.A.R.: Write one thing you learned from another groups' socials presentation today. Make sure you say which group it came from. |
