Today Mrs. Wood returned and shared her Identity box with us. We talked about what generous does NOT look like, which would be all the things on the outside of our Circle of Courage, the negative things. Most of the students brought in their shoe boxes so that they can start making their own Identity box. Math 6: First two pages of Rounding Decimals Booklet (do more if you want!) Math 7: See your teachers' website. Social Studies: Ancestral Essays due Wednesday. Several of you have not finished your writing which was supposed to be done today. You must finish it tonight so that tomorrow we can edit! I want you to have as much time to edit as possible so that you can hand in your best work on Wednesday! PLEASE RETURN YOUR INTERIMS IF YOU HAVE NOT YET DONE SO!!!!! P.A.R.: In one sentence, say one thing you've learned while doing your oral presentation research. Today we spent time working on a little Remembrance Day presentation. Students were put into groups (see above) and assigned a conflict that Canadian soldiers have been involved in. The students' job is to look at the information available on their conflict and put together a very short (2-5 minute) presentation to give the rest of the class a general understanding of what the conflict was about and what Canadian's roles were in that conflict. Something very important to note is that this is not a homework assignment; it is to be done in class time which the students will be given on Monday and Tuesday. They will present their information on Wednesday. Again, I will reiterate, this is NOT homework. Parents, if your child is working on this at home, I did not assign it:) Here is the link to the rubric and criteria.
Homework: Math 6: pg 305 all questions (unless I told you otherwise). I can't believe we are halfway through the unit already! Math 7: See your teachers' website. Language Arts/Socials: Remembrance Day Oral Presentation Here is the criteria and rubric for your presentation. Remember not to use Google Slides, Powerpoint, or any other presentation tool that you cannot use on our school iPads. We have the iPads booked for working on our presentations but we will not have computers. If you were at We Day, you can read the assignment instructions at the link below. You will have class time on Monday and Tuesday to work on these. All we need is a general overview of the conflict that you've been assigned. You can see who your partner is in the photo above. Remembrance Day Oral Presentation Criteria and Rubric Social Studies: Ancestral Essay due Wednesday, November 9th Reminders: Tonight is the PAC movie night. Doors open at 5:30. All interims should be returned by Monday!!!! I resent invitations to several parents today so students, show them how to set up their account from my email:) Go over your interim with your parents and show off your FreshGrade portfolios! Have your parents comment on a few of the activities. Please remember that parent comments are most beneficial when they are specific. Some good sentence starters could be: I really like how you did..... I am proud of how you.... I noticed you were approaching expectations on.....I wonder if you could have ....(This not only points out an area that needs improvement, but offers a suggestion for making it better.) "In your reflection, you said you needed to work harder to prepare for your math test. How will you do this? Maybe next time I could help quiz you." These are just a few examples to help get you started but the important thing is that parents and their children are sitting down to discuss the learning that is taking place. P.A.R: We Day Students: What was your biggest takeaway from today? How did you enjoy it? Everyone else: Catch up on any posts that you are missing. Math 6: Worksheet on multiplying decimals by one digit numbers and multiplying money amounts by one digit numbers. Remember, for the questions that refer to base 10 models, just do the calculation.
