This afternoon the students participated in the Hour of Code. Code.org provides instructional games and videos that teach students the basics of programming and using computer code. We started with working on the game "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Students programmed their droids to move around and catch mouse droids, avoid Storm Troopers, and create Taun Tauns. They were so engrossed that you could hear a pin drop while they were working. After they completed the Star Wars challenges, they were able to experiment with any other game that they chose. Many of them worked on Flappy Bird, allowing themselves to gain points for crashing into things, or giving themselves nearly infinite points.
We are collecting non-perishable food items and cash donations for a family in our sister school, Lena Shaw Elementary. We are also collecting non-perishable food items for the Cloverdale Christmas Hampers. We will be setting a class goal this week for how much food and money we would like to reasonably raise. All donations need to be in by December 9th so that we can put together the items for the family by Christmas. Class Goal: $2 and two items each.
