Today our grade 7's persevered and completed another portion of the FSA tests. They have been working very hard at these and are halfway there!
In the afternoon students chose their projects for researching extreme environments. They will be bringing home criteria sheets so feel free to ask your child about their project. Curling Info (as taken from Ms. Hurtubise's website) Curling originated in the 16th century in Scotland, where games were played during winter on frozen ponds and lochs. The earliest-known curling stones came from the Scottish regions of Stirling and Perth and date from 1511. Now, Curling is a favourite sport of Canadians. On Monday, January 23 and 30, we are going curling at the Cloverdale Curling Rink. I think it's going to be fun. The Cloverdale Rink has been having an issue with salt coming into the lobby of their club. If it is not dealt with properly, it can and does find its way to the ice which leads to it some very serious affects on the quality and effectiveness of the curling ice. Here is what we have been asked to do to help alleviate the issue:
It is also recommended that you wear warm loose stretchy clothing (jeans are not suitable, sweat pants are best) and dress in layers (light jacket, sweater etc.). You may also want to bring a pair of gloves. P.A.R.: Go to the Core Competency Website https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/sites/curriculum.gov.bc.ca/files/pdf/CriticalThinkingCompetencyProfiles.pdf 1. Identify what profile you think you fit into under the Critical Thinking Core Competency 2. Pick one "I can" statement from the profile that is something that you CAN do 3. Think of a time when you demonstrated the "I can" statement (for example, if it is "I can use my senses to collect evidence and make a simple judgement" talk about the time that you felt how cold it was, saw that it was raining, and decided to put on a jacket. This is my example, come up with your own!)
